We are hiring large numbers of candidates to work in our export health certification service. An ambitious expansion has created many permanent full- and part-time posts working with major supermarkets and food distributors across the UK.

  • Education: any UK degree in any subject, or a minimum three A levels (or equivalent or higher qualifications), one a science subject or food technology
  • English: very good written and spoken English
  • Attitudes and behaviours: must be adaptable and have strong organisation skills to work to agreed timescales and meet all deadlines
  • Experience: previous experience useful but not essential; full training will be given
  • A driving licence is not required

Your tasks will vary from day to day, but will include:

  • You will provide export certification for products of animal origin (POAO) – primarily meat, meat products and dairy
  • You will ensure that all consignments meet the requirements of importing countries as detailed in the Export Health Certificate
  • You will involve yourself with all relevant inspection and verification tasks and supervise and check the loading of POAO
  • You will need to establish and maintain productive working relationships with exporter customers and your colleagues. This demands an effective and confident communicator, who is able to build good working relationships and sort out issues as they arise
  • As a Certification Support Officer, you will have to understand legislative issues and gain a comprehensive knowledge of the exporting sector so you can make effective decisions when required
  • You must possess sufficient diplomatic and communications skills to sort out difficult situations that will arise occasionally as part of the job
  • You will be able to work under your own direction and to your Export Official Veterinarian
  • A 35 to 40 hours working week (days and times will depend on the position awarded). Overtime might be required to meet a deadline, while you may have to work outside normal working hours occasionally
  • You will have to be physically fit – working conditions might sometimes be hot or cold – and you must wear protective clothing such as boots, hats, overalls and safety jackets based on the Health & Safety requirements of the export locations
  • Each Certification Support Officer works closely with an Export Official Veterinarian and Eville & Jones clients
