As the largest provider of Export Health Certification services, our Export Official Veterinarians play a vital role in supporting the export of animal products from the UK. They understand legislative issues within the exporting sector, keep up to date with any regulation changes, and have thorough knowledge of packaging and labelling requirements.

With export certification required for all products of animal origin, Export Health Certificates are needed for any goods being transported overseas. There are more than 1,500 types of Export Health Certificates for POAO worldwide, so Export Official Veterinarians have to be knowledgeable and attentive to detail, scrutinising documentation to ensure this is completed in line with legislation.

Alexandra Zaman joined the export team in July 2024, bringing valuable experience from her previous two years working as an Official Veterinarian with us. We asked Alexandra to share more about her role and what a typical day involves…

“I began my role as an Export Official Veterinarian in July 2024, playing a key part in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient export of animal products from the UK. I am currently based in the north of England, where I enjoy the flexibility of my role, the opportunity to travel and explore different locations, and the benefit of working in a lower-stress environment.

A typical working day varies, but this tends to involve completing export documentation, inspecting animal products to ensure they comply with regulations for the destination country, and evidencing compliance to meet traceability requirements. I also check transport vehicles are suitable for carrying goods, making sure these are up to hygiene standards.”

Alexandra’s Key Responsibilities:

  • Export Health Certification (EHC): Accurately completing all necessary export documentation in line with national and international regulations.
  • Product Inspection: Verifying that all animal products meet the required standards for export.
  • Hygiene & Compliance: Ensuring that transport vehicles, particularly trailers, are clean and suitable for carrying goods.
  • Evidence Collection: Capturing photographic evidence to support compliance and maintain detailed records.

“My role is vital in maintaining the UK’s high standards for animal health and food safety. I take pride in contributing to this important work and being part of a company that values professional integrity, flexibility, and excellence.”
