On 4 November 2025, Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2025/2208, which amends Great Britain’s BSE status from controlled to negligible risk for EU export purposes, was published in the EU Official Journal.
The legislation entered into force on 24 November, 20 days after publication.
From 24 November 2025, meat from bovine, ovine and caprine animals and related commodities containing such meat, obtained or manufactured in Great Britain, may be exported to the EU and Northern Ireland under negligible risk controls.
This includes products from bovine, ovine and caprine animals born, continuously reared and slaughtered in England, Scotland and Wales, regardless of the kill or production date. Cattle born before 1 August 1996 must not enter the food chain.
