We are pleased to have donated £400 to Nuestra Escuela Leeds (NEL), the first Spanish supplementary school based in Yorkshire.
The school opened its doors on the 25th of February 2018, to support Spanish speaking families living in Leeds and surrounding areas. It aims to maintain the Spanish language and traditions, following the curriculum taught in Spanish primary and secondary schools, incorporating traditional popular knowledge such as games, songs and local festivities.
The educational model is based on Spanish rural schools. They provide services to children born in Spanish speaking families, covering a wide age range (0 to 18 years old). The pupils are placed in different classrooms according to their age and previous Spanish knowledge and take part in a range of exciting interactive classes promoting participation, creativity and independence.
Led by our Spanish Country Ambassador, Juan Avila, E&J has supported the school since it opened in 2018, donating money and assisting with admin duties, particularly during the early years.
Juan has helped with the running of Nuestra Escuela since the beginning, taking on the position of chairman, and helping to raise funds to ensure their work can continue after funding cuts.
Pictured is Juan with our Regional Director, Jose Teja, who takes his twins, Hugo and Daniela, to the school every Sunday. We are proud to see our very own E&J colleagues taking their children to the school to learn more about Spanish culture and keep this exciting project going.
