We love seeing colleagues progress within our business, developing their skills by taking on new roles and responsibilities. Career paths within E&J can be very varied, with a range of opportunities available for those who wish to progress within their chosen career or try something different, with internal talent being something we champion across our roles.
For the past three years, Robert Weekes has worked with us as a Meat Hygiene Inspector, covering all species and assisting vets. Before this, Robert worked in the meat industry as a Slaughterman, where he experienced all aspects of abattoir work from lairage to chillers and developed extensive knowledge of production and operational procedures.
Because of this experience within the veterinary public health, May saw Robert moving into a new role as UK Safety Lead for E&J, which will see him working closely with our Health and Safety Manager, to gather information through field audits and ensure our staff are given all the tools and training necessary to carry out their tasks in a safe and appropriate manner.
On moving into this new role, Robert said:
“Having worked for E&J in the field for the past three years, the time felt right to expand my knowledge and continue with personal development, so when this role was advertised the timing was perfect and there was little hesitation in applying. In much the same way as when I initially joined the company, the time felt right for progressing into a more specialised field of expertise.
I’m most looking forward to meeting new people – we have some fantastic people doing a great job on the front line and my favourite part of the job is speaking with them and learning from their experience. I also enjoy travelling to different parts of the country and visiting different plants. I’m a bit of an abattoir geek!”
We’re very proud of Robert and wish him all the best in his new role.
