World Animal Day is a day of action for animal rights and welfare, recognised across the globe. It was founded to improve animal welfare standards, encouraging everyone to work towards making the world a better place for animals.

Animal welfare plays a big part in the work we do, with our veterinary professionals ensuring animal safety nationwide. From our colleagues working in Official Controls, to those working in small animal clinics, we are dedicated to ensuring animals are cared for properly.

Our colleagues are passionate about animal health, with extensive knowledge of animal wellbeing, including disease prevention and animal inspection. Their roles ensure all animals receive the appropriate care, with detailed understanding of every part of the process.

We asked Radu Sirbu, Regional Director at E&J, to share his thoughts on the work veterinary professionals do to safeguard animal welfare:

“In the intricate domain of food safety and animal welfare, public health veterinarians, official veterinarians, and meat hygiene inspectors play critical roles. Their collective efforts ensure that animals are treated with the utmost care and respect throughout the entire process, and that the meat we consume is safe.

Official veterinarians serve as the guardians of animal health and welfare. They work tirelessly to prevent the spread of diseases, both among animals and from animals to humans. Their responsibilities encompass monitoring animal welfare, ensuring animal health, inspecting livestock before slaughter, and ensuring that only healthy animals enter the food chain.

At E&J, our teams of dedicated official veterinarians and meat hygiene inspectors are responsible for safeguarding the welfare of 1.2 billion animals per year. We are committed, trained professionals who invest our time, emotional energy, advice, and education to uphold the highest standards and safeguard animal welfare.”
