They also support with pet travel requirements, completing Animal Health Certificates and necessary travel documentation for pet owners wanting to take their pet abroad.
Raquel Madureira joined E&J in 2020, initially working as an Official Veterinarian and Export Official Veterinarian, before moving into her current role of Community Pet Clinic Veterinarian at the end of 2021. Before working at E&J, she had just finished her veterinary degree, where she completed two internships at wildlife rehabilitation centres in Portugal and Spain.
She now works full-time with us in Jollyes clinics, supporting pet owners with vital preventative care.
We asked Raquel to share more about her role and outline what a typical day involves…
What are the main responsibilities involved in your role?
My primary responsibility is to provide accessible and trustworthy immunisations and health checks so that pets can live healthy lives and be protected against serious diseases. I also provide microchip implantation, enabling pets to be reunited with their families if they ever get lost.
Another essential responsibility, that I care about dearly, is to be able to provide the pets and their owners with a stress-free experience. The CPC clinics are often a good alternative for pets that suffer with severe anxiety when attending a veterinary hospital. The CPC environment is often calmer for those pets, providing both pet and owner with a better experience, avoiding the stress and trauma they might associate with veterinary hospitals.
Raquel’s Daily Tasks
- Checking vaccination temperature records before the clinic opens
- Checking that the emergency kit is available and fully stocked
- Checking if the necessary materials used at the CPC clinics are all in order and available
- Carrying out veterinary appointments with customers, including performing health checks, administering vaccinations, implanting microchips and completing the relevant paperwork
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love that I get to support animal wellbeing by giving immunisations to little puppies and kittens, whilst working with responsible breeders and owners. I often get to be the pup’s/kitten’s first contact with vets, and I love being able to provide them with a positive experience. I also enjoy meeting all the different dogs and cats that come to the CPC clinics – it’s a very rewarding experience.
