We have recently expanded our service offering to provide fully-qualified feed inspectors to carry out official feed controls. Inspectors can be provided on an ad-hoc, urgent or regular basis, with competitive rates to support local authorities with regulatory requirements.
Feed inspectors visit a range of businesses, from small retailers disposing of surplus food to large-scale mills producing 600,000 tonnes of feed. Regardless of their size, every operator has a responsibility to understand the importance of feed safety and the potential consequences when standards are not met.
The purpose of this service is to verify that feed is fully compliant with all legal requirements and standards, with an aim to prevent animal diseases caused by contaminated feed. This includes conducting feed hygiene interventions, complaint investigations and feed sampling, as well as responding to feed safety incidents.
We hope to collaborate with local authorities to strengthen adherence to feed safety legislation by delivering a risk focused service, directing guidance and enforcement toward activities that pose the greatest risk and improving overall confidence in feed safety controls.
One of our recently qualified inspectors, Ahmed Agrama, commented on his training experience. He said:
“The process of becoming an Animal Feed Inspector is very complicated and can take up to three years due to the amount of knowledge required to pass the exam. Coming from a veterinary background made this easier, as we already had awareness of animal welfare and regulations.”
