We have Country Ambassadors working with international universities, encouraging students to join us in the UK and start a rewarding career in veterinary public health. With the majority of Official Veterinarians coming from overseas, we rely on global talent to fill crucial roles, and champion the knowledge and experience of veterinarians worldwide.
Andrei Ungureanu is our Country Ambassador for Romania, promoting Official Veterinarian roles to students through presentations, careers fairs and webinars. Romania has four major veterinary universities, each offering six-year degree programmes following the European model. Three out of the four universities are EAEVE-accredited, which means Romanian graduates are eligible for practice within the UK.
We caught up with Andrei to find out more about his Country Ambassador role…
What do you love about your ambassador country?
Romania is a country full of contrasts—rich in history, natural beauty, and cultural diversity.
I love the resilience of its people and the strong sense of community, especially within the veterinary field. Romanian veterinarians are highly skilled, passionate, and determined to grow professionally. It’s a privilege to support talented individuals in finding opportunities to thrive in the UK with E&J.
What universities are you focusing on?
I am primarily focusing on the main veterinary faculties in Romania:
- University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest
- University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca
- University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Iași
- University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Timișoara
These universities have a solid academic reputation and produce well-prepared graduates who are eager to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.
Please note: The University of Iași does not currently hold EAEVE accreditation but is a candidate for it at the moment.
What activities do you have planned as part of the Country Ambassador role?
I plan to continue building strong relationships with veterinary faculties by:
- Organising campus presentations, Q&A sessions, or webinars
- Sharing success stories from Romanian colleagues currently working in the UK
- Collaborating with student associations to promote awareness of career opportunities within E&J
What have you done so far?
So far, I have:
- Visited universities in Romania and delivered recruitment presentations
- Acted as a point of contact for candidates throughout their application and onboarding processes
- Helped tailor promotional materials to better suit Romanian graduates
- Organised several events, with E&J as patron, to promote the company to veterinary students in Romania
What impact do you hope to have through your role as a Country Ambassador?
I hope to inspire confidence among Romanian graduates and help them realise the great potential of an international career with E&J. My aim is to be a reliable resource and mentor for new recruits, bridging the gap between education and a professional path in the UK. Ultimately, I’d like to help strengthen the bond between E&J and the Romanian veterinary community.
