Veterinary careers are something we’re passionate about, with a view to highlighting alternative career paths to veterinary graduates and experienced professionals. With most graduates choosing to go into small animal clinics, it’s important to raise awareness of veterinary public health careers which often experience shortages, but also offer an opportunity to use your veterinary science degree to do something different.

At E&J, we offer a range of roles and progression opportunities for veterinary professionals, all of which offer the chance to develop your experience and safeguard animal welfare and public health. Whether you’re a recent graduate with an interest in veterinary public health, or an experienced veterinary professional wanting to move into a new role, we have a range of options to suit you.

Here are just a few examples of the diverse veterinary roles and career paths we offer across our business, from graduate opportunities through to leadership roles. For a list of current vacancies, please visit: https://eandj.co.uk/current-vacancies/

Official Veterinarians (OVs)

Official Veterinarians work in abattoirs and meat processing plants to ensure that all meat is being produced safely and in accordance with relevant laws. They guarantee that the highest animal welfare standards are maintained, and that all animals are cared for properly and transported safely.

Export/Portal Official Veterinarians

Export or Portal Official Veterinarians help facilitate international trade, through inspecting goods at export/import and accurately completing Health Certificates. They understand legislative issues within the exporting/importing sector and have thorough knowledge of packaging and labelling requirements.

Community Pet Clinic Veterinarians (CPC Vets)

A Community Pet Clinic Veterinarian performs basic clinical services, including carrying out vaccinations and boosters, providing animal health checks, worming and microchipping. They work within Jollyes pet stores nationwide, providing a friendly and professional service for customers.

Management Roles

We offer a range of management opportunities, with the chance to progress through a number of roles and develop leadership skills. Our managers ensure excellent service delivery, motivating and organising teams, as well as providing day-to-day guidance and improving ways of working. We have a variety of team leader and management roles across operations and area management.

Technical Roles

For veterinarians interested in the technical side of veterinary public health, there are opportunities to progress into field-based and Learning & Development technical roles. These all have a focus on sharing technical knowledge with veterinary colleagues, to ensure effective delivery of all our services.

Secondment and Project Opportunities

In addition to the above roles, we also offer secondment opportunities, with the chance to work on a variety of different projects. These can run for a few weeks or longer, providing our veterinary professionals with additional learning experiences and task variety to develop their veterinary knowledge.
