Tomorrow is World Animal Day, which was founded to promote animal rights and welfare across the globe. Celebrated internationally, it serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to maintain high standards of care for animals everywhere.
Our veterinary professionals work tirelessly to safeguard the health and wellbeing of animals, ensuring all animals are cared for properly nationwide. From our Official Veterinarians and Meat Hygiene Inspectors working in abattoirs, to our Animal Welfare Licensing experts protecting small animals across the country, we’re proud to stand alongside so many passionate colleagues who make a real difference to animals everywhere.
To celebrate World Animal Day, here are some thoughts from our colleagues who work to safeguard animal welfare every day…
“Whether in clinics, farms, or abattoirs, veterinarians help ensure that animals are treated with respect. My role as an Official Veterinarian allows me to make a meaningful difference every day — not in loud or dramatic ways, but through consistent care, vigilance, and a deep commitment to doing the right thing for animals, people, and the earth.” – Mazhar Kaya, Official Veterinarian
“Veterinarians play a crucial role in the One Health concept, directly or indirectly contributing to public health goals and outcomes. Animal and human health go hand in hand, and veterinarians are the first line of defence.” – Silvia Buzaljko, Portal Official Veterinarian
