Following the earthquake in Türkiye and Syria, Eville & Jones has set up an online appeal to directly support Turkish colleagues and their families affected at this devastating time.
On 6th February, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey near Gaziantep, followed by a second earthquake in the Elbistan district. The scale of destruction is vast, following two big earthquakes and over 60 aftershocks. More than 41,000 people across Turkey and Syria are known to have died, and many survivors are enduring near-freezing winter temperatures.
Over 140 veterinarians working at Eville & Jones are from Turkey, and donations are to be distributed to those most in need and directly impacted by the earthquakes.
E&J chief executive Charles Hartwell said:
“With so many of our vets coming from the region, we have witnessed first-hand the catastrophic effect this kind of event can have on individuals, their friends and family.
“We are doing everything we can to support our people in the UK and their friends and families in the regions affected by the earthquakes.
“We know that many of our vets in the UK have sent substantial amounts of aid to their loved ones, something which inspired us to get involved and do what we can to help.”
We have already exceeded the initial target of £3,500, and Eville & Jones has pledged to match any funds raised up to £10,000.
Donations can be made via the Eville & Jones JustGiving Page.
