Our UK-wide team of Official Veterinarians carry out import inspections across the nation – including at East Midlands Airport which is the UK’s busiest ‘pure’ cargo airport and second only to London Heathrow in terms of total cargo.
With vast knowledge and an enviable track record of enabling the import of Products of Animal Origin, our dedicated staff have worked at the airport for 15 years and ensure around 600 shipments per year are safe to pass our borders.
And with the government’s new Border Operating Model set to be introduced from the end of January 2024, we are now stepping up our official controls and consultancy services to ensure importers are ready for the new rules and regulations.
By carrying out documentary, identity and physicals checks on goods, we safeguard the health of 60 million consumers each year and our crucially important role in the food chain is only set to get greater.
At East Midlands Airport, we work closely with North West Leicestershire District Council which oversees environmental health and community safety. Here is what they had to say about the services we provide:
“Eville & Jones have provided the Portal Official Veterinarian Services at East Midlands Airport for approximately 15 years.
“Within that time, they have consistently delivered the service to an excellent standard.
“In addition to carrying out the veterinary checks on imported goods, our Official Veterinarians have provided a leading role in the surveillance of flight manifests and compliance audits carried out by the Animal and Plant Health Agency.
“Since leaving the European Union, all port health authorities have been in a process of preparing for significant change to the service.
“Being able to draw on the expertise of the experienced Official Veterinarians supplied by Eville & Jones has been invaluable during the period of change.”
Our team of Portal Official Veterinarians has recently grown to 30 professionals who draw on a wealth of experience built up over many years of working in a wide range of establishment types and food sectors.
This includes Patrik Vazan, Senior Portal Official Veterinarian, who heads up our service at East Midlands Airport and will soon feature in an article to provide an insight into our diverse careers and growing services.
